1. Who We Are
Christmas Lights Near Me, LLC, doing business as Big Red Bulb (“Big Red Bulb,” “we,” “us” or “our“), runs bigredbulb.com (the “Site“). Our address is 8735 Dunwoody Place, Ste R, Atlanta, GA 30350.
This policy explains how we handle personal information on the Site and in emails we send about it. It is part of our Terms of Service. Words like “founder,” “ambassador,” “decorator,” “Contest” and “Organizer” mean what they mean in the Terms.
Tacky Light Tour and its app have their own privacy policy. Section 6 explains how the two sites share information.
2. What We Collect
2.1 Information you give us
When you create an account:
- First and last name
- Email address and password
- Phone number and country code
- Your address or location, picked from a search box. Big Red Bulb asks for this when you sign up. We use it to show displays near you.
- Whether you want a public profile (see Section 4)
When you verify your account: we send a code to your email and may send a code to your phone by text message.
When you use the Site, depending on what you do:
- Displays. Name, street address, map location, photos, videos, hours, season dates, features, links, and any charity or donation details.
- Communities (founders). Community name, logo, description, area and season dates. Who you approve as ambassadors. Displays you hide.
- Contests (founders). Award names, award sponsors (name, link and logo), a “Giving back” line naming a cause and its link, and an optional public contest email.
- Contest entries (decorators). Which award your display is entered in. Whether you chose to share your email with the founder, and when you made or changed that choice.
- Votes, ratings and reviews. Your votes, star ratings and written reviews.
- “Seen it” confirmations, nominations, saves and claims.
- Profile extras. A profile photo, banner and links, if you add them.
- Ambassador applications and invitations. Answers you give when you apply. If a founder invites someone, we get that person’s email address from the founder.
- Messages to us. Anything you send to support.
Photos in share graphics. The share studio lets you add a photo from your phone or computer to a graphic. That photo stays on your device. The graphic is drawn in your browser, and we don’t receive the photo.
Videos. You can add a video by pasting a link (for example, from YouTube, Facebook or Vimeo). You can also upload video files through FromSmash, a file-transfer service. If you do, we send FromSmash your name, email address and account ID, and the display’s name, so we know who sent the file.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and log data. Like most websites, our host and its network provider receive your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time.
- Approximate location from your IP address. If you haven’t searched for a place and haven’t saved one on your account, we send your IP address to ipapi.co to guess your city. We use the result to show displays nearby. We keep the lookup result for about 24 hours.
- Precise location, only if you allow it. If you press a “near me” button and your browser asks permission and you say yes, your browser gives the page your current location. We use it to find displays near you. Your location is also sent to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service to turn it into a place name. You can say no, or turn it off in your browser.
- Sharing log. When you press a share, download, copy or print button, we log which tool you used, the platform (for example, Facebook or “copied link”), what was shared and when. If you are signed in, we log your user ID. If not, we log a scrambled code made from your IP address and browser type. We use this to count shares, not to identify you.
- Display views and saves. We may count display views and saves across Big Red Bulb and Tacky Light Tour. To do this, your browser stores a random ID. We keep only a scrambled version of it, along with the display and the day. We don’t receive your location this way. These detailed rows are deleted after the holiday season, and only daily totals are kept.
- Cookies and similar tools. See Section 8.
2.3 Information from other people
- Other users may add your home as a display, upload photos of it, review it, or invite you to be an ambassador.
- Founders decide which award your display is in, and may hide it from their community.
- Our email provider tells us if mail to your address bounced, if you marked it as spam, or if you unsubscribed.
- Tacky Light Tour may send us display listings and the latest “confirmed” dates (Section 6).
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Run the Site: create accounts, show maps and display pages, record votes and show standings.
- Verify accounts and keep them secure.
- Show displays near you.
- Make share graphics, flyers and yard signs (as the Terms describe).
- Send email (Section 9).
- Share listings with Tacky Light Tour (Section 6).
- Show ads (Section 8).
- Understand how the Site is used, and improve it.
- Prevent fraud, spam and vote cheating, and enforce our Terms.
- Act on requests from residents, rights holders and users.
- Follow the law and protect people’s rights and safety.
We don’t use your information to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
4. What Is Public
The Site is built to be shared. Anyone, signed in or not, can see:
- Display pages: street address, map location, photos, videos, hours, season dates, features, ratings and reviews, and directions.
- Reviews: your first name and last initial, your star rating and what you wrote.
- Communities: name, logo, description, area, and the displays on the map.
- Contests: awards, entries, the leaderboard and vote totals, award sponsors (name, link and logo), the “Giving back” line, and the Organizer’s contest email if they added one.
- Share graphics, flyers and yard signs: these include display names, photos, award and sponsor details and the “Giving back” line. People download them and post them elsewhere. We can’t take back copies that were already downloaded, printed or shared.
- Your profile, only if you turn on “Make my profile public.” A public profile shows your first name and last initial, your profile picture and banner, your links, the communities you belong to, whether you are a founder or ambassador, and the displays you run. If your profile isn’t public, its page isn’t shown.
We don’t publish your email address or phone number. Who you voted for isn’t shown publicly. Search engines may index public pages.
5. Founders and Contest Organizers
Founders are volunteers, not our employees. They use our tools to run communities and contests.
What a founder can see about you:
- Your name (usually first name and last initial) if you join their community, apply to be an ambassador, or confirm one of its displays.
- Your answers on an ambassador application.
- For your display: whether it’s entered in their contest, and which award.
- Your email address, only if you choose to share it. When you enter a display in a contest, there’s a box: “Share my email with the organizer.” It’s off unless you tick it. If you tick it, that community’s founder sees your full name and email address. We record when you ticked or unticked it.
If you change your mind, untick the box. The founder will no longer see your email on the Site. But they may already have copied it, and we can’t take it back from them.
Phone numbers are never shared with founders.
Founders’ limits. Our Terms (Section 9.4) let a founder use a shared email only to run that contest, for example winner news, prize pickup and sign delivery. A founder must not add it to a mailing list, give it to a sponsor or anyone else, sell it, or use it for anything else. We may remove founder status from anyone who misuses it. Tell us at support@bigredbulb.com if you think a founder has misused your email.
Founders’ own contact details. An Organizer may add a contest email. It’s shown publicly on the ballot, standings and entry emails. We suggest using an address set up just for the contest.
Sponsors. We don’t give sponsors any of your information.
Cheating. We may tell an Organizer about suspected vote cheating.
6. Our Sister Site, Tacky Light Tour
The same company runs Big Red Bulb and Tacky Light Tour. The two sites have separate account databases.
What moves between them:
- Display listings. Displays and related content (such as address, map location, photos and whether a display is claimed) may appear on Tacky Light Tour and its app. Listings from Tacky Light Tour may appear here.
- “Confirmed” dates. When a display is confirmed on one site, the other site gets the date.
- Usage counts. Display views and saves may be combined across both sites, as described in Section 2.2.
7. Who Else Gets Information
We don’t sell your personal information for money. We share it only as this policy describes:
Service providers that help us run the Site. They get only what they need to do their job:
- Hosting and network: Rocket.net (hosting) and Cloudflare (network and security).
- Email: WP Mail SMTP (sending software) and SendLayer (email delivery).
- Text-message verification: Twilio.
- Address search and maps: Geoapify and OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim (turning addresses into map locations), Esri (map images), and Leaflet loaded from unpkg.com. Your browser contacts these services directly when you use a map or search box, so they receive your IP address and what you searched for or viewed.
- Approximate location: ipapi.co (Section 2.2).
- Video transfer: FromSmash (Section 2.1).
- Fonts and icons: Google Fonts and jsDelivr. Your browser loads files from them, so they receive your IP address.
Others:
- Google, for ads and analytics (Section 8).
- Video sites. When a display page shows a YouTube, Facebook or Vimeo video, that site may set cookies and collect data under its own policy.
- Social networks. If you share to Facebook, Nextdoor, X or another network, that network gets what you post.
- Redbubble. Our shop is run by Redbubble. When you buy, Redbubble collects your details under its own privacy policy. We don’t take payments on the Site.
- Founders, as described in Section 5.
- Tacky Light Tour, as described in Section 6.
- The public, for what you post (Section 4).
- Legal reasons. To follow the law, a court order or legal process; to enforce our Terms; or to protect anyone’s rights, safety or property.
- Business transfers. If we merge, sell assets or reorganize, information may pass to the new owner, subject to this policy.
- With your consent, or at your direction.
8. Ads, Cookies and Analytics
8.1 Cookies and storage we use
- Sign-in cookies keep you logged in.
- Setting cookies remember choices, such as whether to show unconfirmed displays on a community map (kept for 30 days).
- Browser storage remembers things like displays you’ve saved and, if that feature is on, the random ID in Section 2.2.
8.2 Google ads (AdSense)
We show ads from Google AdSense on most pages. We don’t show them on forms, dashboards, ballots or the share studio.
- Google and its partners use cookies to show ads. These cookies let them show ads based on your visits to this Site and other sites.
- You can turn off personalized ads at Google’s Ad Settings: adssettings.google.com.
- You can also opt out of some other companies’ personalized ads at www.aboutads.info/choices or www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- Learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
8.3 Analytics
We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use the Site. Google sets cookies to do this. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
8.4 Your choices
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features, like staying signed in, need cookies.
- Use Google’s Ad Settings link above.
- Global Privacy Control (GPC).
- “Do Not Track.” Browsers’ “Do Not Track” setting has no common standard, and the Site doesn’t respond to it.
9. Email
We send:
- Account email (verification codes, reminders to verify, password resets, and important notices about your account or our Terms). You can’t turn these off while you have an account.
- Contest email. A one-time “5 ways to win” email each season when your display is first entered in a contest. Also a “voting is open” email, if you asked for one in the share studio.
- Announcements, such as news about Big Red Bulb and, for decorators and founders, timely information about running a display or community.
To stop announcements: use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of our emails, or go to your Email preferences page while signed in. You can also reply or write to support@bigredbulb.com.
Bounces and spam reports. Our email provider, SendLayer, tells us about bounces, spam complaints and unsubscribes.
- If mail to your address bounces permanently, we stop sending to it.
- If you mark our email as spam or unsubscribe through SendLayer, we turn off optional email. Account email still goes out.
- We keep the address, what happened, and when on a “do not send” list, so we can keep honoring it.
10. Your Location
Location is central to a map of holiday lights, so here is a summary in one place:
- Your account address is used to show displays near you. It isn’t shown publicly.
- Your IP address may be used to guess your city (Section 2.2).
- Your device’s precise location is used only when you press a “near me” button and allow it.
- Display addresses are public by design (Section 4).
11. How Long We Keep Information
We keep information for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, unless the law requires or allows longer. In general:
- Account details: while your account is open, then as described below.
- Displays, photos, videos, reviews and community pages: while they are on the Site. Content may stay after you close your account (see the Terms, Section 20).
- Votes: kept with the contest results.
- Email-sharing choices: kept with the contest entry, including the date of each change, so we can show what you agreed to.
- “Do not send” list: kept as long as we send email, so we keep honoring it.
- IP location lookups: about 24 hours.
- Detailed view and save rows (if that feature is on): deleted after the season (from February 1). Daily totals are kept.
- Sharing log:
- Ambassador invitations:
- Backups and server logs:
12. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards suited to the information we hold. For example, WordPress stores passwords in scrambled (hashed) form, and only authorized people can reach our admin tools.
No website or email is perfectly secure. We can’t guarantee that information will never be accessed, used or disclosed without permission. Use a strong password that you don’t use anywhere else. Tell us right away at support@bigredbulb.com if you think your account has been misused.
If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as the law requires.
13. Children
The Site is for people 13 and older. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
If we learn that a child under 13 has given us personal information, we will delete it. If you believe this has happened, contact support@bigredbulb.com.
Users between 13 and the age of majority need a parent or guardian’s involvement, as the Terms say. Please don’t post photos that identify children without a parent’s permission.
14. Your Choices and Rights
Everyone can:
- See and update your account details on your account page.
- Turn your public profile on or off.
- Untick “Share my email with the organizer” at any time.
- Change email preferences or unsubscribe (Section 9).
- Block cookies, turn off personalized Google ads, and deny location access (Section 8).
- Ask us to correct or remove content about you or your home.
- Ask us to close your account. There’s no self-serve button yet, so email support@bigredbulb.com.
14.1 U.S. state privacy rights
Several states have comprehensive privacy laws. These include California (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA), Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and others. Each applies only to businesses that meet its size or data thresholds.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know and access the personal information we have about you, and get a copy.
- Correct information that is wrong.
- Delete information we have about you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and of targeted advertising.
- Limit use of “sensitive” personal information. We don’t use sensitive information, such as your precise location or login details, to infer things about you. We use it only to provide the Site.
- Appeal if we turn down your request.
- Not be treated differently for using these rights.
“Sale” and “sharing” for ads. We don’t sell personal information for money. But Google’s ad and analytics cookies collect identifiers and browsing information from the Site. Some state laws treat this as a “sale,” or as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising. To opt out:
- Turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.
- Block third-party cookies in your browser.
- Email support@bigredbulb.com with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share.”
We don’t knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
14.2 What we collect, in the categories California law uses
In the past 12 months we have collected:
- Identifiers: name, email, phone, account ID, IP address, cookie and device IDs.
- Personal records: name, address, phone number.
- Internet activity: pages viewed, share buttons used, how you interact with ads.
- Geolocation: approximate location from your IP address; precise location only if you allow it; the address on your account.
- Audio and visual content: photos and videos you upload.
- Inferences: Google may infer interests for advertising.
- Sensitive information: account login details (email and password); precise location if you allow it.
We collect these from you, your device, other users and our service providers, for the purposes in Section 3. We disclose them as described in Section 7. We keep them as described in Section 11.
15. If Your Home Is Listed
Most displays are at private homes. Other users can add a home that is visibly decorated for the public.
If you live at or own a listed home, you can ask us to correct, hide or remove the listing, including photos and the address. Use our Support page or email support@bigredbulb.com. We may ask for reasonable proof that you live at or own the property. You don’t need an account.
Once we remove a home at a resident’s request, users may not list it again.
We can’t recall share graphics, flyers or signs that others already downloaded, printed or posted.
16. How to Make a Request
Email support@bigredbulb.com, or write to us at the address in Section 19. Tell us:
- What you are asking for.
- The email address on your account, if you have one.
- The state you live in, if you are using a state law right.
Verification. To protect you, we will check that the request is really from you. Usually we do this by confirming the email address on the account. We may ask for more if the request involves sensitive information.
Authorized agents. Someone can make a request for you if you give them signed permission, and we may still ask you to confirm your identity.
Timing. We will respond within the time the law requires, usually 45 days. We’ll tell you if we need more time.
Appeals. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with “Appeal” in the subject line. We’ll respond within the time the law requires. If you’re still not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.
17. Visitors Outside the United States
We are based in the United States and run the Site from here. If you visit from another country, your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those at home. By using the Site, you understand your information will be handled in the U.S. as this policy describes.
18. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we’ll change the “Last Updated” date. If a change is material, we’ll give notice, for example on the Site or by email to registered users. If the law requires your consent to a change, we’ll ask for it.
